Right. What was good about my work placement, or my strengths or the things
that I got throughout the year? And it was the teamwork. My job was mainly
based on teamwork. If you weren't a team player, if you couldn't
play as a team, you couldn't succeed in the work. I think
one of the requirements for the company you have to be a teamwork player. So, definitely,
yes, that really helped me, especially last year's unit when we did the
Olympics assignment as well as the business project. That helped me a lot
to study. It encouraged me to work as a team. Time management and I learnt how to prioritise
things; So for example we had a meeting. They had
three coffee breaks by ten thirty. I knew that
by nine o' clock I had to set up things for ten thirty. So it was very important.
Ownership. I learnt how take decisions by myself without actually contacting my manager.
So it was quite good. I mean obviously I got that experience after six or seven months.
Communication skills. Again, I think it was due to the constant contact with clients
face to face, so that really helped me to do well and also my writing skills have improved,
compared to last year. Confidence. Obviously I became more confident
because I started to know the system, I started to know the products that we offer,
the services, in and out. So I became quite confident regarding the products that
we offer. Sales. I got do to a few sales that we have.
Basically it's like walking. What we call walking. It's the people that pass by the
building for example. And then if we didn't have no one available then the manager has
assigned one of the service coordinators. In this case it was me and I had to take the
person around the building, show them, talking about the services that we offer.
And then get a lot of information, for example the name of the company, what
are they looking for, contact number, etcetera, etcetera. And then I would pass
that information to the sales team who then come to the person and they'd close the deal.
But I did quite a few sellings whilst I was there.
What was also good being part of the company project. One of them was the directory,
which is this. (points to graphic on the display screen).
But everything started before Christmas. My manager just called me one day and they said
"listen we need you to come up with some sort of information leaflet for clients, in case
they want to go out and have lunch outside the building or they have a client who needs
to stay nearby." So, I've got the leaflet actually. I came
out with, I came out with this very like university leaflet. It contains like a front
cover, names of a few hotels, and then the rest is about price discount to members.
And the idea was so successful that my manager decided to take the leaflet to
one directors board meeting where CEO of the company was there and other directors and
they like the idea so much that they introduced this (holds up a pamphlet)
directory at the meeting, which is pretty much similar to the one that I created.
So now all the heads of the centres in London have one of these in reception.
It was good. Customer service obviously, because we have
to provide good customer service, it's all basically about customer service, so that
helped me a lot. Leadership. Although I wasn't appointed like
in a leadership in the team, like a service coordinator or a senior service
coordinator, I was a quick learner and I knew the system in and out. I was seen
as a leader, basically, so I was seen as the key player between the managers and
the staff. It was good. And working under pressure, it was definitely
one of the skills that I gained that year.
