Let's talk about taking care of newborn kittens. The first question is always, is this an orphan
situation? If the queen or mother cat is present, the queen is going to take care of those newborn
kittens, almost always. Occasionally, you'll see a situation where if the queen is sick,
or can't take care of the kittens, that you have to intervene, so always talk to your
veterinary clinic first, and let them guide you on how to do this, how to take care of
them, how to provide nutrition. With newborn kittens, they demand nutrition every 2-4 hours,
typically, and so if this is an orphan situation, you're going to have to do that for them.
You're going to have to use some sort of milk replacer, and bottle feed newborn kittens
every single day, several times a day, so they get that proper nutrition. If you're
doing that and taking care of them yourself, you always have to keep them warm. You want
to keep them in a quiet place. You don't want to over handle them, because they are going
to sleep a lot. Their sleep is designed to help brain activity, brain development, and
nutritional ingestion, and things like that, and so basically, talk to your regular clinic
first, as far as caring for newborns. They will help you. Never jump in and try to do
anything, if they're brand new born, and the queen is present, because the queen is typically
going to take care of them for you, and plus queens can be aggressive, around a newborn
litter.
