New Yorkers have welcomed their first ever cupcake cash machine to the city.
The vending machine, better known as the Cupcake ATM, was first launched by the Sprinkles Cupcake
company in California after a little inspiration.
One of our founders, Candace, when she was pregnant with her second child had a craving
in the middle of the night for something sweet and she was like 'I own a cupcake bakery,
I run a cupcake shop. How can I not get one?' And then boom, the idea for the Cupcake ATM was born.
The machine can hold up to 800 cakes and sits just opposite the Sprinkles store, so it can
be hand packed with freshly baked sweet treats.
We pack them up throughout the day and we hand stock the ATM. From that point we set
the ATM to go and depending on what flavour you pick the robotic arm picks your flavour,
you swipe your card, and just like that you have a cupcake.
Each cake will set you back around $4 and it's proving to be a great success.
It was awesome. It's so exciting. I love cupcakes, and Sprinkles is my favourite. So it was super
exciting, and I hope they open more ATMs around the city with cupcakes.
