Hello! My name is Dr. Susan Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to talk
to you about cholesterol. In particular, about ways to lower cholesterol. Before I start,
let me introduce myself. I'm a clinical research physician in the area of oncology, which is
cancer, and also a stem cell scientist is AIDS and ***. I've worked at the National
Cancer Institute and also at UCLA school of medicine. In this series of clips, we're going
to address several topics about cholesterol. First of all, we're going to look at the definition
of cholesterol. This total cholesterol, which is made up of 3 different types of cholesterol,
groups LDL, HDL, and Triglycerides. We'll talk about each of the categories. Then we're
going to talk about plaques are formed from these deposits and some of the complications
and some of the diseases that you can get from having high cholesterol in your diet
like heart disease or stroke, and so on and so forth. We're going to look at risk factors
and then we'll discuss in detail about certain ways of changing a lifestyle, a diet, and
so on about how you can lower the intake of cholesterol.
