Clabber Girl Corporation is really the baking powder piece of the Hulman ; Company businesses.
Hulman ; Company itself was founded in 1850 in Terre Haute, Indiana, so Clabber Girl baking
powder has been produced right here in Terre Haute since 1923.
We export to forty different countries throughout the world. We are the number one retail baking
powder in the United States and we're focused on trying to continue another hundred and
sixty-one years of business.
I've been with Clabber Girl for seven and a half years now, and we have just started
really trying to better track our products from manufacturing through our ERP system
and trying to use handheld scanners to capture data in real time. And our business has grown
from ten different items, to now we have over four hundred different finished goods that
we sell.
one manufacturer and because of that, we needed to replace an older infrastructure of standalone
servers for our ERP system, our file system. And so, instead of spending the money to continue
that route, we were able to look at the Scale solution. And as the data continues to grow,
now we have a solution in place that we can just buy another M2 node and we're good for
another couple years.
So we started looking at Scale storage and they are geared more towards a small to medium
business, and really fit into our budget, and fit into what we're looking for in a SAN
provider. We're able to do more stuff with this equipment. We're able to use the shared
storage feature of the Scale operating system and move that stuff into more of a virtual
environment.
There was a another piece of software that could help us manage our inventory better
so we would have better cash flow and with the scaled solution in the VM environment
that we have now we were able to start loading this new inventory management software. So
prior to that the old process would have been to purchase a new server, you know, which
would take a couple weeks by the time you order etcetera, but this was what used to
take two weeks I guess took roughly fifteen minutes.
Before we were virtual we were actually you know if we a new project came along and we
had to, you know, find the budget for the new equipment. We had to buy the new equipment.
We had to wait for it to get here. We had to install it into the rack. We had to install
the operating systems. Install all the apps that go with it.
Now with everything being virtual on a shared storage solution we spin up. We have some
templates out there. We spin up. template and in literally five minutes we're ready
to go with a new server for whatever need that we may have.
I would highly recommend Scale from the standpoint of they are easy to work with and it's not
just day one of installing this product. There's actually support with the product and it's
worked out to be a great partnership.
With the solution that was chosen with regards to Scale Computing, Clabber Girl was able
to save fifty thousand dollars in our 2011 capital budget.
