Hello Everyone. We want to begin today's show by thanking you...
...for your participation and all the e-mails we've got..
through our website.
The same one that's appearing on your screens now.
I'd like to thank Raymi7 who's operating the camera
and editing the show.
Also, I'd like to express my gratitude towards one follower of the show in particular...
Her name is Silvia Rivera
who lives in Colombia and has a request.
She wants us to play a video
from Siouxsie And The Banshees
And we will play it on the second part of the show.
In the meantime, get ready...
...because we are about to begin our journey through The Vortex!
Without a doubt, all of you, the music lovers out there...
...who are into dark music...
would have to agree with me when I tell you that you'd like our next band
left its mark on the alternative music scene back in 1985.
Worthy of an exclusive place in the annals of music history...
Love And Rockets arose from the ashes of another band...
and that band was Bauhaus.
A British quartet,
fronted by Peter Murphy,
who after Bauhaus' dissolution,
began his career as a soloist...
...while leaving...
...the road open for the other three remaining members of the band...
...to make the decision to move forward into a different direction...
...regrouping as Love And Rockets.
Love and Rockets was composed of Daniel Ash on vocals and saxophone,
and the brothers Kevin and David J. Haskins.
Kevin on Drums...
...and David J.on bass guitar.
Love And Rockets,
adhered to a sound closer to pop
and psychedelia.
Making use of swirling guitar sounds, persistent basslines...
...and dissonant riffs...
making their
songs more appealing to different audiences.
What we have for you today on Vortex, is a song from their album,
"Express"
from 1986.
the one that you are seeing now.
This is their second LP
and possibly,their best one.
The lyrics on this album are brilliant,
elegant and thought provoking.
which evidences the band's maturity and its potential.
Some great songs...
that you must listen to...
the first one would be "Ball of Confusion"
a cover of the original tune written by "The Temptations".
and Love and Rockets' first hit.
Another great song on this LP is "Kundalini Express"
featured in the soundtrack
of the movie "Demons 2"
from the famous producer and movie director
Dario Argento.
Another great song would be their dreamy
"Love Me".
And, of course, "All in my Mind" which is coming next
on your favorite show Vortex!
That was "All in my Mind" by Love and Rockets.

Alright.. so moving along...
and like I said on the intro to our show
here comes a song for one of our viewers
who wrote us an e-mail from Colombia.
Her name is Silvia Rivera
who is a big fan of Siouxsie and The Banshess. She requested...
a video from their early days.
So we decided to play a clip from a song that's on
Kaleidoscope.
The third album of the band
released in 1980.
This album,
was recorded with a new line-up,
since Kenny Morris and John Mckay...
...drummer and guitarist, respectively...
...who took part in the recording...
of the first two albums:
"The Scream" in '78
and "Join Hands" in '79... ended up leaving
the band
leaving Siouxsie Sioux
and bassist, Steven Severin,
alone and at a crossroads.
To deal with this situation...
Siouxsie and Severin
decided to call, not one, but two guitarists...
one of them was the late
John McGeoch
considered by some as the Jimmy Page of New Wave.
The other guitarist was a former member of the Sex Pistols...
...Steve Jones.
But to complete the new lineup they needed a drummer,
so they hired Peter Clarke also known as Budgie.
who married Siouxsie Sioux
in May of 1991.
With this new line-up
they recorded Kaleidoscope
the LP that you're seeing now
which is the result of an impecable and
imaginative production work.
Many songs on this album
are incisive and dark
colored by somber lyrics.
A strong record that's highly recommended.
The best songs on this LP
well... one of them would be..
"Happy House"
with it's simple but drawing guitar line, although some listeners
may find it very bland and boring. Another great one on this LP is "Christine"
and the powerful songs "Clockface",
"The Tenant" and "Skin".
amongst others.
But what we have prepared for you Silvia,
thank you for you emails and comments...
is "Red Light" here on Vortex!
That was Siouxsie with Red Light. An interesting fact about
Kaleidoscope
is the incorporation of synthesizers
for the first time since they started playing.
Departing from their initial,
punk sound.
Red Light is proof of this change in sound.
We've reached to the third part of our program...
...its final part... where we will be presenting
another great band from the 80's.
Out next band is Danse Society.
A precursor to the post punk movement
that took place in England in the early 80's.
Known for writing compelling songs,
Danse Society's first line up was
composed of Steve Rowling on vocals,
Paul Nash on guitars, Lyndon Scarfe on keyboards,
Tim Wright on bass
and Paul Gilmartine on drums.
With this line up,
the band played extensively across England; releasing
their first album
"Seduction"...
...released by their own label...
...Society Records.
The release of this LP, attracted the attention of
the big record labels
such was the case of Arista
which signed them the following year...
...releasing
...their classic album...
"Heaven is Waiting"
...becoming more popular...
...in Europe. This is their album "Heaven is Waiting"
released on Arista. Some people say that
signing to Arista was a big mistake
because the executives meddled in
matters pertaining to the band like forcing them to change their sound
or the structure of their songs.
In fact, they forced them to include a cover song
with
the intention to sell more records
And they did so by recording "2000 Light Years from Home"
from the Rolling Stones,
a song included on this LP.
Whether this is true or not,
The Danse Society's sound was always awesome...
...and both "Seduction" and
this LP are a testament to that.
Songs like "Come Inside", "Wake Up"...
"Angel"...
"Where are you Now" or "Red Light"
are all great songs, that you might wanna listen too.
Coming next is a live rendition of the song "Heaven is Waiting", recorded by the English TV show...
..."The Tube"...
...aired on Channel 4 in England. This is
Danse Society
and "Heaven is Waiting" live. Enjoy!
That was Danse Society with "Heaven is Waiting"
with Steve Rowlings on vocals.
A few years back
I had a poster of him
hanged in my bedroom,
and all the girls that saw it used to tell me
"what wouldn't I give to spend a night with him?"
I'd ask them now if they still feel the same way.
Well... Thank you for watching the show...
today.
and to Raymi7 who is in charge of the camera work
and the editing.
Don't forget to visit our website and leave your comments,
suggestions,
and requests. I'll see you next time
take care and make sure to check back next week for a new emission of Vortex!
