Hi. I'm Lisa Goldsworthy with Ace Carpet and Upholstery Care in Denver, Colorado. And in
this segment I'm going to talk about removing grass stains from your carpeting. So if you
take a look here we have our lovely grass stain in this carpet sample here. If it's
something like this what you want to do is vacuum any amount of loose soil out as quickly
as possible. So that'll be our first step. And I take the vacuum and I use the upholstery
cleaning tool because I, the *** brush at the bottom of the vacuum may ground this
stain in a little bit more so let's go ahead and use the upholstery cleaning tool on that.
I don't have anything fancy. I want to get as much suction as possible out of this upholstery
cleaning tool so I've got the, I have it just plain so I can just go like this as I vacuum.
I don't want to scrub. Never scrub. Okay? So always remove the loose debris first. That's
step number one. Step number two. Let's go ahead and see if we get any results by taking
a white cloth. You can always use a white paper towel as well if you don't have a white
towel. But be sure that it's a towel that is white without any coloring in it. You want
to take ice cold water. And the reason why you want cold water is because hot water can
often set a stain. So make sure that water's nice and cold. So just kind of wring it out
a little bit. Wring it out over a sink or just kind of fold it over and get other parts
of it wet. Let's see if we get any color transfered at all on this, okay? And what you want to
do is you want to blot. That's always rule number one in carpet cleaning, spot cleaning,
is blotting. Never scrubbing, scrubbing will damage your carpet fiber. And we actually
have some nice transfer. Some color transfer here onto this white cloth so good news. So
be patient. Now we know that we're getting some color transfer. Now what you can see
I'm doing is I am blotting the whole area with that other wet part of the towel and
getting some color transfer. Now this unfortunately may not come out all the way. I hate to be
pessimistic but this is a real rough stain. It's really dug in there. This is white carpeting.
This is rough. But we always start with our least aggressive method and that's the white
towel. So continue this process of using your ice cold water and blot, blot, blot. Until
you don't get any color transfer on your white towel. So, it's a painstaking process. But
it's worth it to be patient and do it the right way. Okay? The other thing you can do
on this stain would be to gently, just gently go back and forth with it. I'm still getting
quite a bit of the grass stain out of there. Which is nice. That's exactly what we want
to see. Okay? Keep doing that and remain patient. Okay? Now I'm also going to use a spotter
that has the exact same PH as water which is a PH of 7. The reason why I'm using this
is that it's a great spotter. I'm going to go ahead and put some of that on there. And
also the reason why I recommend something that's very close to the PH of water which
is again 7 is that it wont leave a soapy residue behind. Often what you find is that when you're
tackling a carpet cleaning stain you're going to use some sort of maybe cleaner that has
any oxy feature to it or sudsy feature and you may okay results with it but then you
find out a week or two later that that spot is dirty all the time. It just seems like
it attracts dirt. Well most likely you probably have some soapy residue left there and that
really, the best remedy for that is to extract that. Let's see how this spotter's doing with
our PH of 7, being the same as water. We're getting there. So with persistence and patience
continue blotting the spot until you get zero color transfer. And once that happens if there's
still a little bit of stain there then you can call a carpet clean professional. They'll
have most likely very good results because you have done a great job in doing the proper
treatment of the spot. So keep at it.
