The median age of the world's population is increasing.
People are living longer and the average life span will continue to rise.
The aging population will have a profound effect
on society and change the world as we know it.
At Karolinska Institutet we want to make sure
that we are prepared to handle the changing demands on Health Care.
Dementia diseases are examples of age-related conditions on the rise.
These are complicated, costly diseases
as patients live with them for decades.
Karolinska Institutet does a great deal of research
and presents cutting-edge international research
on diagnostics, disease mechanisms, treatment
and best practices, within the dementia field.
To share our work we have created Master's Courses in Dementia Care for Physicians.
After completing the courses physicians will
obtain an insight into the latest advances,
and be better equipped to meet the needs of of their patients,
as well as the families of the patients.
The education is web-based
and focuses on interactive student-centered learning.
Short lectures are available online,
enabling physicians to attend at their own convenience.
Exercises, individual studies and group work
are based on patient cases and practical assignments
making the courses applicable in everyday work.
As teachers Karolinska Institutet provide professors
at the forefront of research in the dementia field
ensuring a high academic level.
Physicians, that have taken the courses,
agree that the flexibility of online education,
having top professors close at hand,
together with best practice sharing
make this a great learning experience.
The education is offered in cooperation with Stiftelsen Silviahemmet,
and upon completion the physician will become a certified Silvia doctor
and receive a diploma and official pin from Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the most distinguished medical universities,
consistently ranking among the top 10 medical universities in Europe.
