Welcome to Ask Mr. Cloud!
In this video we'll take a look at some of the best ways to listen to music on
the Internet.
Open Chrome.
Pop open a new tab.
and let's first have a look at Pandora.
You do need to create an account.
It's very simple, you just, you know, fill out your name and your email address and
password, I think they want your age
and zip code
because Pandora is for U.S. only.
Pandora works
by creating stations.
Up in 'New Station'
As it says - "enter an artist, song, or composer and we'll create a station featuring
that music and more like it"
very simple
Dean Martin . . .enter
We've just created Dean Martin Radio.
So you'll see
Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, etcetera,
will be
intermingled.
You'll get a variety of music matching that genre.
Now when you come across a song
that you really like
give it a thumbs up.
If you come across a song that you don't like
thumbs down.
and Pandora will adjust your playlist that it sends to you
reflecting your likes and dislikes.
very interesting
In your profile,
you can see the stations that you've created and you can go back anytime
and give 'em a play.
Pandora is free.
You are also able subscribe for a monthly fee, I believe it's thirty six
dollars a year which is not bad.
The free version, they occasionally pop in an advertisement between your songs
now and then.
No big deal.
I find that i'm able to live with that. It's not that annoying to me.
So that's pandora and you can find pretty much any kind of music that you
like here.
all right
My favorite. I happen to have a pretty extensive library of music on my
computer.
and you know you can use iTunes
to listen to that.
I like
Google Music.
/music
Now Google Music is not available
to everyone yet.
If you have, of course you have your Gmail account,
you would request an invitation
and then they'll process the invitation, send it to you
and you can install 'Music'
Google Music is very interesting.
It's like an iTunes kind of application in that
it will access the database of your music library
the difference is that Google Music will upload your entire library
up to
twenty thousand songs
and make that available to you anywhere
it takes you music library
stores it in the cloud
and you're able to access it, so if you go to a friend's house, you can just pull
up the music
the Google Music product on their computer, sign in with your account and
your entire music library is available.
It also works very well on an Android phone.
you can download the Google Music application
on the Android phone, and again, have your entire music library available to
you anywhere.
very nice
This is what the interface looks like.
You get the album pictures,
create playlists, and such. You can view it by artists or albums or songs.
Very much iTunes like in that you can search your collection in that manner
so if you do have a lot of music on a hard drive -
on your computer -
Google Music is really an awesome way to go. I'm really happy with it and use it
all the time.
I have an Android phone
I'll plug it into my car stereo and be able to listen to whatever i want
as i'm driving
or at my friend's house or wherever i might be.
So those are what i consider to be
the best applications for listening to music online.
Pandora
free streaming music.
Google Music
looks to your music library.
and they're two very different aspects to listening to music.
Thank you for watching Ask Mr. Cloud.
