Hi, I'm Joan Stewart, The Publicity Hound, and in a minute, I'm going to show you where
to find a free list of freelancers who can cover your story.
But first, let's talk about what freelancers do. Freelancers are independent contractors.
They sell stories to newspapers, magazines and online publications, and they're paid
by the story or by the number of words they've written.
Many of them also review books and other products. So here are three ways they can help you:
--First, they sell your story to the editor, and you don't. You don't have to pay freelancers.
It's the publication that pays the freelancers to write about you. They can use you again
and again as a source, and you can appear in multiple media outlets.
Here's where to find that database. Hop on over to the Society of Professional Journalists'
Freelancer Directory at the link you see here, and you'll find hundreds of freelancers. Many
of them have their contact information right at this site. Here's what you can do. You
can search by state, and you can also search by area of specialty and really drill down
and find that freelancer who is perfect for you.
