It's the people we meet.
You make friends for life, pretty much.
I judge for them.
I cook with them occasionally, and it's a different game.
Some people love golf. Some people love barbecue.
If you add up all our expenses through the year,
we didn't make any money.
But it's still fun, it's still a hobby, and it's still enjoyable.
We enjoy meeting people.
We meet people everywhere we go, from different places.
It's a bunch of camaraderie, people who enjoy being with each other.
We really enjoy trying to spend the fellowship with each other.
I kind of roped them into doing this, so...
I said, "Hey, y'all wanna go cook in a competition?
We could have a lot of fun."
And we had a little black pull-behind grill,
or Gary had it, which is probably my most favorite grill to cook on.
You can have all this stuff.
I'll take that little black pull-behind any day,
and I could whup on some people with that thing.
That's a lot of good cooking.
We come in in the top three here tomorrow, I'm happy.
It was a successful weekend.
There's some good cooks here.
Somebody's in trouble, that's right. Look here.
You can tell by that right there. You can tell by that right there.
Somebody's in trouble.
I give them credit every time.
Every time they finish ahead of me, I say, "Yep, yep, I made a mistake.
I did something wrong. I didn't do what you told me to."
Especially Brian and especially Larry and Jeff, those two.
And--but when I win, I give them credit, too,
because they taught us the things that we should do.
If I needed anything off of his trailer that he's got,
I can go get it, and vice versa.
You know, if I got something they left home, they'd run out of,
you're welcome to it, and everybody here is like that.
This is our barbecue family.
It's competitive, don't misunderstand.
We want to win.
We were unhappy last week with our placement, but, you know,
we were unhappy not with the other cookers but with the judges, you know.
You gotta be mad at somebody. So we get mad at the judges.
It's the bragging rights to go down here and tell some of my buddies,
"I got ya," just like I did last weekend.
We won last weekend in Darlington, and I told them all weekend,
"Y'all gonna be second or third because I got first place."
