Katadyn 8013629 Hiker Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com.
Today we’re looking at the Katadyn 8013629. This is the Hiker, an easy to use filter pump
designed specifically for outdoorsy people or really anyone drawing water out of a potentially
dangerous source. It features a 0.3 micron glass fiber media
with a granular activated carbon core. In combination, these two media have passed the
EPA testing standard for microbiological water purification, which means you can count on
the Hiker to reduce 99.99% of microbial cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia, pathogenic
bacteria like salmonella, e coli, and cholera, and protozoa. You can be safe drinking water
out of the Hiker. It weighs a mere eleven ounces, and is capable
of producing 1.5 liters of water per minute with a mere eight pounds of pressure on the
pump. Filter life is approximately 200 gallons and
it’s super easy to change. Simply grab ahold, twist, remove; throw the whole thing away,
the granular activated carbon core is not replaceable, grab a whole new one, reinstall,
twist it back in place and you’re back in business.
And it includes everything that you see here, including this source water hose which has
a float, a weight and a pre-filter strainer designed to capture large particles and stop
them from getting into your filter and clogging it.
It also has an outlet hose, and a bottle adaptor for standard bottles like the Nalgene bottle,
and a bite valve adaptor for attaching your outlet line to hydration packs like a Camelback.
It also has the appropriate food grade silicone grease to lubricate the piston on the pumping
mechanism and the O-rings. Everything fits neatly in this handy carrying
pack. Pack it all in here, chuck it in your backpack and no matter where you go you can
access safe to drink drinking water with the Katadyn Hiker.
Again, this is Katadyn part number 8013629, the Hiker, and I’m your host Aquaman with
FilterDoctor.com. Thanks for watching.
