Welcome. This video is going
to show you how to edit the settings for your notifications.
You might have noticed this Fall,
Blackboard looks a little different, and one thing is this red
number that appears in the upper right hand corner.
I’m going to go ahead and click on
that menu, and they’re all notifications. You'll see that
if I had posts, or if I had
information in the retention center, or a new calendar entry,
I would actually have numbers next to those icons. But I only have numbers next to the
update. And when I click on that
it’s going to go full screen here. Some of you might
have very large numbers. The numbers can really add up fast
because by default, all of the notifications are
turned on for all of your classes. So once you get in here
you can dismiss things individually if you want, or you
can click on the little gear
in the upper right hand corner to show and hide notifications.
If this window is looking
not the same as it is in the video
it’s because there is a little issue with Firefox.
So you might have better luck with Chrome, that’s the browser I’m using right now.
But, what you can do, if you click at the top,
you can select everything, or click again to unselect everything.
And you’ll see there is a lot on this list.
If I unselect everything and hit save, now I will not be
notified when I have new updates. Now let’s say I do
have a class that I do want
to get some notifications for. I am going to click on that specific class
over here in this gray navigation pane, and then I can click on
the gear here, so for this class, I can say
well, I do want to know when something has been submitted late.
An assessment or an assignment, so I can click those
two boxes, and hit save, and now
I’ll get notifications for that.
And that’s how you turn notifications on or
off.
