Hi, I'm Rich Beem, I'm a patent attorney in Chicago. I represent
inventors in patent matters, including patent applications
and patent litigation. I'd like to show you an example of an
invention of one of my clients, and the patent that they
obtained as a result of that invention. This is the invention
here, or I should say this is an embodiment of the invention. It
is a picture frame. This is a photo that is on the frame and
let me show you how it works. It can be removed from this frame
and another picture, such as this one - which has some little
plastic spacers and magnets on the back that line up with these
magnets on the frame - can be put in place. And the nice thing
about this invention is that it's very secure - they're very
good magnets - and it automatically positions or
registers the picture. And this is a pretty long picture, it
positions it in exactly the right place. So you can go back
and forth from one to the other. And you can vary the artwork
that you have on display. And this is the patent that we wrote
here at Beem Patent Law Firm based on the information that
the client gave to us. We filed this with the United States
Patent & Trademark Office. This was filed in 2006, and it was
issued in 2010. So they stayed with the process. It took about
4 years to get the issuance of this patent. And it's a very
nice patent. It has drawings, it has an abstract, it has a couple
of sheets of drawings that continue on with reference
numerals, and then there is a very detailed specification on
this "image display apparatus and method for making the same".
And then at the end of the patent are the claims, and the
claims are an important part of the patent application because
they describe what the legal scope of the patent is. The
inventors on this patent are Juergen Reinold and Thomas
McAuliffe, both of Illinois. Their company is Sentiam,
S-E-N-T-I-A-M. They have a very nice company that makes picture
frames and high quality products for photographers. Thank you for
joining me. I'm Rich Beem. When you have an invention that you
would like to patent, that's what we do.
