Ok. First let's look at playing the bass drum on all the off beats. Now what I'm talking
about is four beats. One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. The high hat will be
on the second and fourth beat. One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. And so we play
the bass drum off of these beats, not one. This is on. Off, as in after or in between.
Good. Once we get the feet working let's add the ride cymbal pattern; which is ding ***
a, ding *** a. Notice the second and fourth strokes of the bass drum line up with ride
cymbal pattern. This might help you digest this first exercise.
