Hi I'm Tristan McCauley from Lucky 7 Tattoo. And I'm here to tell you a little bit about
body piercing training. The first thing you want to do is try and find an apprenticeship
program at a local shop with reputable artists that have been doing it for a while and are
willing to teach you. Some people charge for it, some don't. It just depends on who you
go to. Another thing you want to do is attend a blood born pathogen class. This basically
just teaches you sterilization techniques, disinfection techniques and the proper way
to avoid cross contamination. Fiojen artists, most of them will have a certificate something
like this, just to say that they've taken these classes and they'll have a certificate
kind of like this. This is their license. It looks similar to this. It may be different
from county to county or state to state but you get the idea. Another thing you want to
do is during your apprenticeship you want to work for at least 6 months as a trainee
in order to learn all the things you need to know. You want to be able to troubleshoot
any kind of problems that may arise. Say someone comes in with an irritated piercing, it looks
red around the opening and closing. You want to be able to see what that is, tell them
whether it's infected, whether it's just irritated or whether it's just normal healing process.
You also want to be knowledgeable about jewelry. You want to be able to tell gages to millimeters,
millimeters to inches, things like that. The more you know about the jewelry the better
you are at doing the piercings. Another thing you want to do is to be able to learn proper
after care techniques. Like the more you know about aftercare the better you can help the
client actually take care of what they got. And after applying for your permit through
the health department the last step you want to do is join the APP or the Association of
Profession Piercers. This kind of legitimizes what you're doing and gives you a better reputation
as a respectable piercer. And this is just a little bit about body piercing training.
