Captain Ringtone Presents
How to download free ringtones to your iPhone
See the description below the video for more resources
on where to find free ringtones and a full transcript of this video
Welcome aboard
Captain Ringtone here and we are going to go ahead and
show you how to download a ringtone
to your iPhone
um...
we're going to be using some
free ringtones from the fartringtone.org
website
All of these are free ringtones that you are going to see
All you have to do is go there and sign up for free,
real quickly and you are good to go. So, we are going to login by clicking the members button. I am going to enter my
email address and password
and click login
Now these are
wav files, so if you have
your own
ringtones, that are wav files already, this tutorial will show you how to get those ringtones on your iphone
via itunes
as well
so i'm just gonna go ahead right-click on
this one
and click save as
and now I have that downloaded
to my computer.
So the next thing that I am going to do is
open up that folder
and I am going to right- click on it. And,
again select Open With
and then iTunes.
So that has now
added it
to my iTunes library
of course you can't see it.
An easy way to find the file is in the upper right-hand corner here
and type in "blow", which happens to be the name of this ringtone file.
and
it is
off screen for you
but, it does show up quickly in this area here, but
I just happen to have a lot of songs with blow in the name
or the artist name.
So, anyway. Once I have found
the file
and I will pull it up here and show you.
that is pretty annoying.
Let's try that again.
there it is
So what I am going to do is right-click
on the file name up here, in this menu there is an option to
Create AAC version.
so I am going to select that and it
then shows up
underneath your original file
and what I do is, I just right click on it. I go to copy, which is
also off the screen again.
and I am going to go back to where I originally downloaded the file and
go to paste.
So, this new file is named
blow.m4a, as in Adam.
And if I right-click on it, and select rename.
I am just going to rename the file extension to m4r
as in Randy.
Instead of
A for
Adam
So, m4r and then hit enter.
and then it is going to ask me if I am sure and I click Yes.
The easiest way to get the ringtone into iTunes is to double-click it.
because
usually iTunes is the only application registered to handle m4r or ringtone files.
So, double click it, and that brings up
iTunes, and I'll see two files. One is the original wav version
and there is the new
AAC version and I select both
by holding the control key down or you can do
one-at-a-time
and hit the delete key and then delete the songs
and then I click on delete
files
Then I go back to
the folder where we have m4r version and I doubleclick the m4r version of the ringtone
it then adds that to
your tones section.
if you don't delete those
files from the music library
for whatever reason itunes which i believe i have version 10.6.3
it will not
add it to the tones
section
it is a total pain in the butt. So what we can do is drag it
on down
here's my phone, Jason's phone.
I just drag it over here and let go
and after a little magic, you can click on the button here and you can see it is now on my phone.
So, to add the ringtone,
or select the ringtone on your phone, on your iphone, you would
then go to the settings
you will click on sounds
and then click on ringtones
So, you click on settings -> Sounds -> Ringtones. And at the top of the list,
you're going to see whatever your ringtone is named. In this case, it was Blow and on my
phone it's right there and if I click it, it turns itself into my default ringtone.
And, then it plays the ringtone for me to let me know that it works.
so hopefully this tutorial was helpful
