Hello this is Wendy with a tutorial on uMod and GIMP in Guild Wars.
First Run uMod
then have it run Guild Wars.
Minimize Guild Wars... so you can set up uMod.
Set the Save Directory - this needs to be done but you won't be saving.
Set the Texture to all white - place the number 255 in all 3 boxes.
If your background is black you need to use all zero in all 3 boxes.
If you want gray then 128 in all 3 boxes.
Check the box "SAVE SINGLE TEXTURES"
Set your 3 hot keys to whatever you want to use
but you will only need BACK and NEXT.
Click the UPDATE button...
Leave uMod running and switch back to Guild Wars.
Using my "NEXT" hot key you can see things will turn solid white in the game.
I want the ground to turn snow white.
Texture 9 is these poles by the campfire.
Ok I found it.
Texture 37 is the ground.
Now I need to position my character facing the sun with the shadow behind her.
That hillside will make a good background.
There are no shadows on it.
Meanwhile my shadow will drop off the hillside and not show at all.
Position yourself and hold Shift and press "Printscreen" key
I will do a close up shot too.
By the way.
It would be even better if you can get a friend to be the camera man.
It is hard to get a good angle using your own camera in the game.
Make sure they know how to set up uMod and it is best to use the highest video settings.
Also there is an option for Guild Wars to use Bit Maps but I use Jpegs.
My computer is limited by the monitor being a laptop.
Once you have your pictures,
Exit out of Guild Wars then Exit out of uMod
Open your image in GIMP
Box Select your subject
Crop the image
Add Alpha Channel to the image
Use COLOR SELECT TOOL and pick the white background
Click and drag the white background until the selection is right for you.
Press "Delete" and most of the job is done.
When I place this BLACK background behind her you can see why a white background is not a good choice.
When it is a white background it looks just fine.
I will close this out and work on my close up in more detail.
Again... Box Select your subject
Crop the image
Use COLOR SELECT TOOL and pick the white background
Add Alpha Channel to the image
Set image zoom to about 400%
I use the lasso select tool to cut this shape out.
And again here.
Then I finish up with eraser.
Here is how to get rid of the white halo.
You Select "Alpha to Selection"
Shink the selection by 1 pixel
INVERT the selection and delete.
But now some pieces are missing so I am going to do that again with a copy under it.
I erase the parts I don't need on the bottom layer and this fills in the missing parts.
Once you are done rename it with as P. N. G.
This will keep the transparent part.
Thanks for watching.
