Hi! I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and today I'm showing you how to baby proof your
kitchen. A very important thing to remember is that children love to explore. They will
get into every little nook and cranny that they can crawl into. The refrigerator is no
acceptation. There are obvious hazards with the refrigerator. Everything from choking
hazards, from anything they can get their hands on like grapes or cherries. Anything
that's a choking hazards. Any allergy issues. There might be potential allergens in the
refrigerator. Also, you run the risk of a child climbing in, closing the refrigerator
door, and actually suffocating in there. You obviously don't want anything like that to
ever happen. Children really do watch you and they mimic your moments. They can figure
out pretty quickly how to open up a refrigerator. Even little Scooter that's just learning how
to crawl around in your kitchen is watching what you do and before you even know it will
figure out how to open the refrigerator. You may think that you're safe for a while, depending
on how high your handle. If your handle is actually higher than you think your child
will be able to reach. If your child can't stand up, watch this. This very instantly
becomes a way for your child to hoist themselves up, even from sitting on the ground, and just
grabbing it, pulling themselves up, and actually pulling the refrigerator open on themselves.
If they're crawling, they can very easily crawl and climb into the refrigerator. This
is definitely one of those things that you're going to want to be sure that you secure shut
so that a child can not open it. I'm going to show you how in our next clip.
