to anything is jessie barnett he's the lead singer of the band stick to your
guns and uh... so jesse my producer who is in a heavy metal band called crack a
tele
here at the milieu with you guys are with you guys already
i actually wasn't until a few listeners said hey you know that there's a quickly
your show and of the young turks
on and uh... honesty feared stick your guns album we listened to at first we
weren't sure if somebody was trolling us because
it happened before but uh... we were actually were were on your album tell us
about the album and song
well
who've score you know we we were
we gotta know how we came across actual ed bass player found the the uh...
that the soviets talking about it yet and uh... week at first i was like uh...
bullet other tidbits about that i wasn't sure you know the name
is really a national commission me to you all the young turks but uh... yeah
noting that
cat but
believing that
okay wonderful
russo uh... in the song is a entitlement phobic song and um... as you know in a
in this country and uh...
people using their religions it out
take away the rights of other people
and and that that we we
when i heard about those clips i was the weekend
at first i was like a i don't know which one you use it i want to use more kids
are both very powerful
very powerful clip so
we just decided screw it will put them both together and you both of them
so um... and we can glasnost that episode ruble play that click again just
to remind people of about it
if someone is very you can't force them to be straight
district therefore some of the air force people would be something they're not
but some people try anyway
now we got a person can have it here
who's going to try to drive the game is have someone
when the next
wallace's similar design it's the twenty first century
and we live in the united states
a seventy-year-old man
has been *** to death
because the bible says
that you should stand the people
uh... versus a tell us does this song and album that its on
it's that song this is called life in a box and the album that is a and uh...
the songs on a album that we put out maybe about a year-and-a-half ago it's
our most recent called diamond
so are you guys like is our progressive values
a big thing within the band or is it just is one song or maybe there's one
topic for people who are familiar with you
even more so its gets them you this kind of music harker music for me when i was
growing up it was always
you know i i i always felt slide a lot of you know what a lot of
teenage in pre-teen kids feel there's that angst
but um...
that that that we all feel
but by found their hardcore punk music to my bp my older brother or sister it's
like there was more of a liking taking that angst and it was more of just and
set of being a direction was kind of uh... you know situation punk music and
even more so hardcore music
gave a direction too and and uh... so
uh... by learned a lot of trigger progressive values from going to these
parkour shows
and their singers are these bands who talk about things from
animal rights to reno feminist rights and so um...
you know uh... did talk a speak out against homophobia and racism and things
like that so it's like
when i when i first went to these kinds of shows and i'd immediately identified
on those kinds of things and so
the next logical step was to start abandon cabinet
you know carry the torch of of
of definitely everyone in the band feels the same way uh... the values that the
the music holds
so um...
that's why i think you know
yeah i mean it's funny because over you know when i talk to my producer i'm like
ian again you have a metal band i think to myself
when i think of like the typical heavy metal concert i don't imagine we're
dealing with like really progressive people but then he says to me no no it's
like the music is one thing
but when he actually show up their it's people who were very open-minded
non judgmental anita's is is really generally speaking a pretty progressive
uh... environment
for sure that i think it's because all the people there and know what it's like
to feel kind of rejected outcasts and so it's like
they would never want to push those
those kinds of feelings on to anybody else so it's almost like we're offering
four freaks together so we know it would sky nova
you know we know that feeling is like so we will ever won out kind of project
that kind of uh... of hatred or or small night small-minded miss on tough on to
other people so were where is your band based and where you guys right now
we are in armor actually between all the honda morning and were from arm orange
county california
unless you guys are touring right now
yellow tore it up
is the is it a grinds like i've talked to um... i've been in touch off an on
with wits to brooks who right now he's he's uh... we dont trio and they're
touring with my style
and that i was talking to him about their on a bus and about the the day-in
day-out tour schedule and you're sleeping on the bus between sees with
the experience like for you
it's you know it's a little bit we have i got a smaller kinda buses that this
prayer to it uh... mercedes
mercedes sprinter van yeah by its it's been billed as four bunks has a capsule
pull into a bad we got t_v_ and wifi xbox and all that good stuff
but this is actually a step up from what we normally do um...
because you know we try to save as much as per the i think the the
the mindset of the bandits it is being comfortable on the roads leading
comfortable at home and we still the money that they're thoroughly on buses
and stuff like that is is that we'd rather sleep on the floor would rather
do we gotta do do it
say that's ahead to save that money but definitely on
on this for a specially run that were on the vans warped or it's it's an all day
event every single day for about fifty days
i would say this is more of a in especially in the heat of the summer
it's it's it's more of a grind than than normal but
you know uh... i'm turning twenty six is here are still
i'm still young
and uh... so it's it's
it's funny you know we don't worry about it said there's nothing else i really
i've been doing it since i'm a fifteen sos it's kind of just
i don't know what else
i don't know what up leg would be or could be doing you know what's the um
what the song writing process for you guys is does it typically star
with lyrics or does it start with the music
arlette
op until recently just added a new guitar players as judge james he played
in some other bands
uh... one called evergreen terrace another band called casey jones and he
uh... he recently joined a banking we've been friends with with uh... him for a
little while and so we keep he's definitely a bring something new to the
tables as far as writing the before him it was me in our guitar player chris
that does does most of the writing musically and i do all of the writing
lyrically
now that i could see something somewhere that kid inspire me in the net
or i can see one line of something from a book or movie or or or or anywhere
really for that matter
and backend spark all sorts of of
of inspiration and it's really uh...
why did ask question why did i don't see it states actually uh...
it's surprising i never really know the answer i can just see her
hits me i guess you know so
new lyrics deluxe room for us in the stand-in specialist kinda music being in
oahu the kind of
progressive music that it is is is
that's i was at the forefront of our band more than anything else
have you ever had a situation where you you you right you guys write a song
and east are playing flying it at shows and people love it and it becomes really
popular and then you start having second thoughts about how much you like it but
you kind of our slave to it and that you expect them to play the song and hate
even if you don't like it you gotta play
absolutely there's there's songs that we've played
you know that i will when i was fifteen you know that's what i don't know anyone
who's
who's the same person that they were ten years ago so especially
you know the the gap from being fifteen what i've learned from being fifteen to
twenty five now it's like
you know i play the songs that it's got it's like it's also i got badly
twenty-two that all you know forty romantic still singing songs about the
problem you know what it means like it because they've got its name but it's
like you know he the we i'd get sworn inside between
you know these people these people
who support us in our so will to us who we've actually done absolutely nothing
to deserve that kind of loyalty from them
they pay money to come out to be shows so you gotta give them a little bit of
what they wanted at the same time you got a hold the integrity of
of playing the song that you wanna play in and reckon realize that you're the
one out there
you know you're away from your family and and we all girl friends n
and you know you're with most people
and you know you got to be able to do which you want as well you know so you
gotta find that you gotta find a line and and walk it as best you can
i read in speaking with jessie barnett he's the lead singer stick to your guns
checked them out on the vans warped tour if your path ever crosses were with
where we are
i'm just offering all i'll sit in for one song on drums
also have been do it you know if if you really want me to i will use rather
happily dont be exactly wonderful i will work
