My name is Simon Lahaye, I'm a Flight Service Specialist at Nav Canada.
I work at Sept-Iles airport.
Our main job is ensuring safe and efficient aircraft movements, on arrivals and departures.
We communicate with pilots over radio.
One of our responsibilities is also controlling vehicules on the airport.
Communications are done in both official languages - engligh and french.
Controllers and FSS have slightly different procedures.
Controllers provide separation. FSS provide trafic information.
Our work tools are: mainly visual observation,
radar,
flight data strips.
We're also in charge of airport weather observations.
A prerequisite would be a desire to learn.
You must also be willing to move.
Most FSS positions are in regional airports:
Sept-Iles. (here)
Rouyn Noranda.
Kuujjuaq.
Iqaluit.
