When I first came here, I was just
amazed at seeing the progress
and the milestones that were achieved with children
I mean just imagine what that does to a parent's heart.
It just gives them hope to say that my child can do greater and bigger things than this
and I think thats just a wonderful story that we have here at Lighthouse Learning Center.
"Hi Allen" "Hiii"
"Go sit down. Hi Rameer" I like the fact that
when you came in, there's a lobby and there's a door, and you have to wait,
and I'm like, this quite a secure place, cool. I think Lighthouse builds
the kids confidence here, and hopefully that will take them through the rest of their lives
in terms of education. The amazing thing here
at Lighthouse, is that they include everyone. No child should be left out
because they have a disability
so incorporating everyone teaches children to be nice to people,
to be considerate, a little bit more nurturing and helpful,
and that's what we kinda need.
The child with the disability has been able to model really good behaviors
of the children who are typically developing, which are children without disabilities.
You know I've seen great success in the children who have come here
and passed through Lighthouse and gone on to public school
and some have even mainstreamed into regular classrooms. We have
full time speech therapist, occupational, and physical therapist.
They interact with us
like in the school system. Everything here is based on school, not day care.
Each one of these therapists take time out of their schedule to
build up every kid here, so all of us can be on one accord.
We all work together to make this happen. This Lighthouse has so much potential.
Well, all of them have made great progress.
I pride myself on that. I really enjoy what I do, so
even if they come in and they're not talking, and they leave with one word, that to me
that's progress. Yes I
I enjoyed the parent involvement. I think thats so important
to have the parents in here for therapy and learning what we do here, so they can do it
at home
The therapist are really good by having the parents come in
answer any of their questions
show them technique with the students, so it's just a wonderful
program that we have here. It is a very emotional day, for the
staff and for the parents, because what graduation signifies is that
the child has completed a significant milestone by going through pre school
and they're ready to move on to what we call "Big School"
(clapping and cheering)
