In this movie and in the next couple of movies, we are going to start to
explore the basic 3D workflow. Now the first thing you want to do is create a
mesh object. This is the actual 3D object itself. These 3D objects are made
from what's called a mesh. These consist of polygons, which are in this
case these little triangles here. These might also be four point polygons depending
on the model. And around the polygons, we have edges and then the points
where the edges intersect are called vertices. Or if you are going to refer
to one of them, it would be called a vertex.
But there is no such thing as vertexes so the plural of vertex is vertices.
In a dedicated 3D program, we have individual control over the edges and
vertices of our mesh. So we can go in here and select a point on
the mesh and move it around to stretch and resize the mesh and you can't
exactly have this level of control in Photoshop just yet.
Yet another reason why it might be a good idea at some point to learn and play
with a 3D program. Now in Photoshop, we'll talk about how to see the mesh of an object.
So here is our donut again and later on in this training series, we'll talk
about how to view the wireframe in which case we can now see the triangles,
the edges and the vertices. We will even look at how to render edges,
vertices, and polygons, also called faces here in Photoshop, how to render these
differently. So it's the first basic step in the 3D workflow, we create mesh
objects.
