I have to say
Kmart was the first big box retailer to think about putting a design group in new york
and when we started
i started with a blackberry and a cellphone called on a few old colleagues of mine, really being used
in different ways, when Lisa called me to join her here and i had two
concerns one was uh...
who we would be able to recruit based on
K Mart's recent history would want to do this
who was gonna make the same choice I was making
in coming here I was way off on that really way off
people view this as a cool opportunity to make a difference
you think K Marts going to appreciate that? People here could work anywhere
I worked for Tommy Hilfiger, Old Navy, The Gap, Liz Clayborne, Their resumes are from speciality to high end
and everything in between
Lisa some how found me and gave me a call
she said come and talk to me
and that was pretty much it
so this is everyone who works here
We've gone from two or three people
up to four hundred and fifty
Everyone should have great choices no matter what you can afford
It's really cool as a designer to be able to say I took
this two dollar fabric and made this twenty five dollar garment and it looks as good as the two hundred and fifty dollar version
You can design anything you want when you have no cost restrictions
True talent is how can you deliver a fashionable item that is not diluted.
It's been an exciting journey, tiring but exiting.
