TY CHUMLEY WAS DUE FOR A BIT OF LUCK
AFTER LOSING HIS HOME AND MOST OF HIS BELONGINGS TO HURRICANE IKE.
I had a house in Sabine that was a total loss.
WITHOUT MUCH TO LOSE, THIS TUGBOAT OPERATOR FROM NEDERLAND,
BOUGHT ONE CHANCE IN LAST YEAR'S BIG TIME TEXAS HUNTS GRAND SLAM CATEGORY.
IT WAS THE FIRST TIME HE'D EVER ENTERED.
I was actually buying some fishing lures at Academy
and was checking out and seen the poster up there.
Just bought one ticket for it.
My lucky day.
FOR A $10 ENTRY OR $9 ONLINE,
ANYONE CAN ENTER THE BIG TIME TEXAS HUNTS WHICH INCLUDES THE TEXAS GRAND SLAM,
A CHANCE TO HUNT ALL FOUR OF TEXAS' PREMIER BIG GAME ANIMALS -
MULE DEER, PRONGHORN ANTELOPE, WHITE-TAILED DEER
AND THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP.
THERE'S ALSO BIRD HUNTS, WATERFOWL HUNTS,
EXOTIC HUNTS AND EVEN ALLIGATOR HUNTS.
THE GOAL IS TO RAISE MONEY FOR WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH,
HABITAT CONSERVATION AND PUBLIC HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES IN TEXAS.
SO FAR, TY HAS HUNTED A WHITE- TAILED BUCK IN SOUTH TEXAS,
A 12-POINT MULE BUCK IN FAR WEST TEXAS
AND A BIGHORN SHEEP RAM NEAR BIG BEND.
Glad I was kinda in shape to go up and down a mountain
to chase it. I stayed sore for about three days after that hunt. My legs.
ALL THAT'S LEFT IS HIS PRONGHORN ANTELOPE HUNT AND A RENEWED
SENSE OF HOPE.
Never know. Could be you.
Could be the winner next year.
FOR TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE,
THIS IS LYDIA SALDANA.
