Hello and welcome to Leeds Metropolitan University.
I'm going to take a few minutes
to show you some of our fantastic student accommodation.
You're going to love Leeds Metropolitan living.
Here at Leeds Metropolitan University
we have a wide variety of accommodation options for you to choose from.
Our portfolio ranges from halls for smaller communities of students
such as Royal Park Flats and Woodhouse Flats,
to larger halls such as Opal 1 and 2 and Kirkstall Brewery.
Leeds Metropolitan accommodation offers a range of facilities
to suit your budget and preferences.
All of our bedrooms sleep one, so you'll have a room all to yourself.
Halls life is an unmissable experience.
It's a great way to make new friends and be part of university life.
In September, you can all move into your new home at the same time
and set up your rooms together.
You can make new friends, begin exploring Leeds
and start your year with a ***.
To help you settle in and get to know your fellow housemates,
each hall of residence runs a range of welcome events during freshers' week.
You can find out more about this on the halls' Facebook pages,
where you can start making new friends before you even arrive.
I was really nervous before I came to Opal.
I was worried about the people I might live with.
But actually I settled in really quickly.
There was a freshers' fair in the first week.
You got to know about things that were going on in the city
throughout the first couple of weeks.
It was a good opportunity to acquaint yourself with other people.
I was really nervous, but it was better.
I met people that I really liked and that I got on with really well.
They're my best friends.
We offer guaranteed accommodation to everyone
who makes Leeds Metropolitan their first choice
and who submits an accommodation application within our booking periods.
When you complete the accommodation application,
as well as being able to select your hall, you can tell us about yourself,
helping us to match you with like-minded people
based on your lifestyle and personality.
For example, you can choose to be with quiet or outgoing students,
girls only or mixed.
Best part of, obviously, coming to halls
is you get matched with people that are similar to yourself,
so they enjoy, like, all the aspects of university that you do.
It's fantastic.
Opal is one of our largest halls,
housing a community of over 1,500 students.
It's extremely close to the city centre,
in close proximity to all that the city has to offer.
Opal is a high-specification hall,
comprising flats that are shared by three to six students.
All rooms include their own en suite bathroom.
The site includes its own gym, complete with a sauna, steam room and a pool.
Many students enjoy taking advantage of these facilities
as it has a very reasonable membership fee.
The living area in each flat includes a TV.
Also, free internet access is standard across all our halls.
I was pleasantly surprised when I moved into my flat.
It was unexpectedly spacious. The communal areas were very nice.
It's also really nice to have our own en suite.
Opal is a really nice place to live.
It's so big and there are always so many people around. It's very sociable.
You're in the heart of what's going on all the time.
Leeds is a really nice place to live. There's always something going on.
Every night there is something different, something for everyone,
and Opal is so close to it.
Kirkstall Brewery has a village-like atmosphere.
It's ideally situated for the university's Headingley Campus,
which is just a short walk away.
Also, the City Campus is quick and easy to get to by bus.
Flats are for five to six students,
and you can choose between en suite or shared bathrooms.
Because it's like a small village, you get to know everyone.
It's a fantastic atmosphere. The environment you live in, it's class.
You've got the countryside atmosphere,
so you've got the canal and trees around,
but a few miles away you've got the city centre.
So proximity-wise it's absolutely fantastic.
One Mill Street is a modern development of purpose-built student flats
housing 450 students.
It's on the edge of the city centre,
within walking distance of the City Campus.
Flats are shared by four to six students.
Many flats have shared bathrooms
and 170 en suite rooms are also available.
One Mill Street also boasts a free on-site gym
and free internet access.
The development is located near Leeds Central bus station
and town is on its doorstep,
making it ideal for students who wish to embrace city centre living.
Nearby is the stylish Clarence Dock,
with plenty of fashionable bars and shops.
Mill Street is great. It's in walking distance of the university.
It's good living so near to town.
My friends all go out together, so I've always got someone to walk home with.
There's always things to do. There's no limits.
You can go out whenever you want. There's always something on.
Living at Mill Street means full access to everything the city has to offer.
Carnegie Village is a modern development
housing 500 students in two types of accommodation.
It's situated at the heart of the student community,
right on Headingley Campus.
Cluster flats, within one block, offer deluxe en suite bedrooms
in flats for 11 to 12 people.
Townhouses give a more homely feel.
Nine to 12 students share a house with its own front door.
The university facilities are one minute's walk away -
24-hour library access for late-night study,
world-class sports facilities for your leisure,
quick, convenient food and shopping amenities,
and the student union bar where you can hang out with friends.
Also nearby is the centre of Headingley
with its student-friendly pubs, bars and shops.
Carnegie Village offers everything you need
to have a great residential experience.
It's a great place to be because there's always someone about.
All the flats tend to interact with each other really well,
so you meet people straight away. It's such a great place to be.
I can socialise at the Acre. The SU is really close as well.
So lifestyle is very good.
The bus stop is right outside Carnegie Village.
It gets me into town in 15, 20 minutes.
To get to lectures and classes I don't have to get any bus,
I can walk in two minutes.
It takes under five minutes to get to any of the pubs and bars in Headingley,
which makes it easy for a night out. You don't need to order taxis.
Headingley is really young.
There's a very enthusiastic vibe.
There's loads of bars where we can hang out to watch matches and play pool,
and there's loads of shopping I can do as well.
Leeds is a great place to live, especially if you're a student.
The city is home to the second-largest student population in the UK,
meaning there are loads of events, gigs, club nights and special offers,
all geared towards students.
I think that Leeds is a very great place to be.
I'm a student myself, and it's just very vibrant.
There's friendly people, friendly atmosphere.
There's basically stuff here for everyone.
There's a lot going on. It's got a really big city centre
and a really big base for students.
Nightlife's really good. There's always something going on.
But also if you don't want a very hectic night out
there's a lot of variety, so there isn't just one set thing you can do.
The city is also a great place to shop, eat out,
attend top-class sporting events
and experience a range of cultural activities.
When that all gets a bit too much,
you can just relax in Hyde Park with an ice cream.
The shopping in Leeds is fantastic.
We have markets where you can get some really cool, different stuff,
loads of boutique and vintage stores.
If you're more into the high street,
it's got anything any girl or guy could want.
There is always something to do in Leeds,
but if you fancy venturing further afield
the Yorkshire Dales National Park is there for you to enjoy
and London is just over two hours away by train.
Leeds is a big city, but it's easy to get around.
Plentiful public transport routes offer a frequent and reliable service.
The Unilink bus runs between town, the City Campus and our Headingley Campus.
Amber Cars is a taxi company that offers a special service
to students from Leeds Metropolitan University.
If you run out of money and require a taxi,
you can hand over your student card and pay for your journey at a later date,
ensuring that you can always get home safely.
Security is a high priority for the university.
Our halls and campuses are some of the safest places to be.
We have a dedicated security team
who make regular patrols and are always on hand to help.
24-hour security offices are accessible from all sites,
and CCTV and gated key-fob access systems are in place
for your peace of mind.
In addition, all sites include basic content insurance as part of your rent.
Hall security's great. It's really secure here.
There's key-fob access, security 24/7,
so I feel really safe here.
Residential officers live on site at selected halls.
They're there to help you settle in and make the most of your time in Leeds,
offering support and advice to make sure you have a fantastic student experience.
The residential officers have been great. They helped me settle in.
They've dealt with any problems or issues I've had.
They've put on lots of social events for students to get to know each other.
They've been brilliant.
Residential officers live on site at the halls of residence
and we deal with any problems the students have.
We help students going away from home for the first time
and coming into halls, which can be daunting for them.
Any disputes, emergencies, issues with their course,
we help them work through those issues.
Most of us have been freshers before, at Leeds Met,
so we know the city very well
and we know what issues first years in halls will face.
So we use our experience to help give advice to students.

Don't forget to check out the halls' Facebook pages.
Come to Leeds Metropolitan, where you'll have the best student experience.
You get to live with your best friends that you'll be friends with for life.
The best place to get your best friends is student accommodation.
Coming to live in halls was the best experience,
and I'd recommend it to anyone.
