Are you pregnant and having that searing burning feeling in the middle of your chest, all the
time or sometimes when you eat certain foods? That's probably heartburn. I'm Dr. Jill from
Tampa, Florida telling you how to deal with heartburn during pregnancy. Well sometimes
it doesn't go away. To prepare you ahead of time all of these maneuvers might not work.
But there are things that would improve the symptoms that you are feeling. One stay away
from the foods that agitate you, greasy foods, high fat foods, spicy foods, all of those
can exacerbate the feeling that you are having. other things that you can do are eat small
frequent meals instead of the three big meals that you would normally eat. Eating every
two to three hours keeps the belly full and keeps the acidity down. Other things that
you can do are to drink a glass of milk. Drink a glass of milk if you are suffering from
the heartburn. Add a scoop of honey in it and that actually also helps. Certain medications
can be prescribed and if you are not able to alleviate the symptoms on your own talk
to your healthcare provider. They can prescribe different antacids that will help neutralize
the stomach and bring those complications down. Other things when you are further along
in the pregnancy and your belly is bigger remember that baby is pushing up on the contents
of your stomach kind of shoving them into your chest. That is what causes that acid
to kind of go back up into your esophagus and cause heartburn. So when you are going
to sleep make sure you prop yourself up a little bit on your side with your head elevated
and that kind of helps push things down. All of these maneuvers will help you avoid heartburn
in pregnancy. I'm Dr. Jill telling you how to avoid heartburn in pregnancy.
