Our involvment in the Reibe group has been a surprise,
Simone, an old time friend, called us to join the project.
I'm a IT student, with Martino we work together in partnership in the musical field.
our integration happened at an already advanced stage of the project
luckily we managed to merge well to get the final result
at the beginning we were quite confused and panicked, but after a while we started understanding,
We had to know who the characters are.
what personality is Umberto's and Froggy's and what both were looking for.
And then we got the boost because the idea behind the short movie
was to make the frog or the bird sing an already existing song,
re-edited for what concerns the text, but the music was already there.
And then we created the soundtrack of a style that is not our usual one
- but we managed to... - ...express ourselves.
we alterned swing to more typical cartoon soundtracks. It was very fun.
- from there, the interpretation of characters. - exactly.
Froggy is like a sort of badly tuned version of Armstrong.
Umberto was a more dynamical Bublé,
since he does know more music, a natural gift he has.
We knew that Froggy's voice should have a certain tone and intensity,
because the song we chose, Mack the Knife,
a comedy operette that has now become a jazz standard,
had to be the soundtrack for the second part.
I searched the internet, and finally found the youtube channel of Nathan Hawkins
He has been very kind and offered his voice to Froggy is back.
Knowing that there was someone overseas collaborating with us to make Froggy is Back
raised the quality of our target and gave us more motivation.
I still remember when all palm trees suddenly decided to put themselves upside down.
the most funny part in the making of Froggy is Back in my opinion
was the production of reference movies for the dance part,
since i was the skillfull dancer that gave the gestures to froggy
Stopping dreaming of Froggy. In the end, I couldn't tell night from day.
We started working at 8am o'clock in the morning when we got to the department of IT
and we finished at the same time the next day, when we got back there.
My worst experience in Froggy is Back was working at Umberto's feathers.
because we tried to render them in the most realistic way possible.
we tried with particles, then modeling it one by one and so on, it was a nightmare.
My greatest difficulty was to try to keep the same style with other persons,
so trying to render everyhing as compatible as possible to what the requests were.
what amused me more was inserting a track in the musical software, by drag&drop.
by doing this, the project became completely different, an folk indian tune.
As in Star Wars, a celery was used to produce intergalactic explosions,
we have got an umbrella!
In fact if you carefully listen to the beginning,
it was used for Umberto's flapping wings.
once landed,
the same object served for his footsteps!
the most difficult part was the rendering,
because we had to face bugs and problems of the 2.49 version that we couldn't expect
such as flcikering frogs, disappearing shadows, varying light intensities, rigging flaws.
and I think that was the time that I sincerely thought to kill Simone Iannuzzi.
It's true, they all hate me.
He's very precise in everything he does
and he has got a mad passion for Pixar,
so if you didn't watch all Pixar movies you should go and see them or he'll kill you
Aside this, he's very with all of us, he guided us good enough for many months,
- but I hate him - "I hate you, Simone Iannuzzi"
sometimes I tell myself "I hate you, Simone Iannuzzi"
In this last stressful time this nice phrase was born, "I hate you, Simone Iannuzzi",
that came out almost spontaneously since our "beloved" director
was a pain in the neck, continously organizing events and meetings
Behind this deep hatred by everyone there must be a deep love, I'm sure of it.
they harmed me...Simone was bad.
- (voice over) Simone who? - Iannuzzi!
All together ! "I hate you Simone Iannuzzi"
...maybe!
The greatest moment has surely been finishing it and watching it
alongside an audience that praised us for the good realization of the short,
even if we were at our first experience.
I always loved 3D computer graphics but i've never done something so complete,
working on animation texturing and charactering; so i must thank all the guys
in Reibe studios for giving me this nice opportunity
Froggy has fallen in love with an extremely ugly lady.
We still can't figure out why he wanted to charm her... well, bad for him.
we saw all realization stages of Froggy Is Back, we knew all the people who realized it.
so I have to wish you have fun watching it, and to enjoy the product of our work
and to keep following us since soon there will be some news from Reibe Studios
Have Fun!
