Hello my name is Edgar, I´m from Merida Yucatan
I belong to Sandos Finisterra Eco-Club Department .
We have an environmental policy within the hotel, part of our policy is to preserve our environment.
We are located in the Peninsula of Baja California which is relatively desert area.
Part of the environmental program is to incorporate native plants from the region, plants that are well adapted to the climate of the peninsula of Baja California, a desert area, for example cactus or plants like these ones.
This are Desert Stick, do to their surrounding which they live, they are very well adapted to extreme temperatures and low humidity.
This plant is commonly called Asiento de suegra (Golden Barrel Cactus),
Pitaya agria (Sour Pitaya) endemic to the region,
Cholla plant.
The cactus saguaro is also very well adapted to desert areas; it grows 1 or 1.5 inches a year.
A saguaro can grow up to 82 or 100 feet.
Here we have our first specie a "Seagull" It got injured yesterday and has broken wing. We put a cast on it and will release it in one or two months.
At Sandos are committed to the environment, and that is in the care of all the species: plants and animals found within the hotel.
