For the square stitch, you'll need two pieces of gimp that are both the same size.
Start by taking the first piece of gimp,
find its center and wrap it around your index finger twice.
So there are two loops.
Next, you'll take the second piece and run it right under both of those loops.
Pull through until you get to the center of that second piece.
Now, we have a left strand,
a right strand, a left loop and a right loop.
My right loop hangs off closer to me.
My left loop hangs off farther from me.
So, I'm going to keep my right strand closer to me.
You go over the right loop and under the left loop.
Pull through. Then you take the left strand.
Keep it farther from you.
Go over the left loop and under the right loop,
and pull through. If instead your left loop hangs off closer to you,
then you'll keep your left strand closer to you and your right strand farther from
you. Now, pull it off your finger.
Slowly tug on all four strands.
There, we have our starting stitch for the square stitch.
