>>[NARRATOR] The first recorded sighting of rubber ducks occurred in the Yachats River
estuary on July 4th, 2006. Every year since, the ducks have returned to Yachats on July
4th. In this, they mirror a pattern seen in many human visitors, and confirm the value
of Yachats as a tourist attraction. Ornithologists are expected to crowd the beach
in anticipation of this unique phenomenon. In fact, this occurrence has become so popular,
that an unscrupulous local nonprofit has again announced plans to sell tickets ahead of time.
