My name is Christine Marquette, and I'm a registered and licensed dietitian with the
Austin Regional Clinic and I'm going to talk to you about the best way to lose weight.
The best way to lose weight is the old fashioned way. Healthy diet and exercise. So, by healthy
diet, that just means make sure you eat from each major food group. Make sure you're including
a variety of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Make sure you're getting some good
whole grains on a daily basis, whether that comes from brown rice or whole grain cereals
such as oatmeal, whole grain breads, such as wheat bread or rye bread. Also when it
comes to protein, choosing lean sources of protein, whether that comes from beans, nuts,
seeds, tofu, or lean choices in meats. Poultry without the skin on it, seafood. These major
groups are the areas where you're going to get most of your vitamins and minerals. If
you're not lactose intolerant, make sure you're drinking plenty of milk. Eat cheese, eat yogurt,
that's going to give you a lot of calcium. As far as mother major aspects of healthy
weight loss, physical activity. That's the other thing that you need to include most
days of the week. So for weight maintenance and for overall health, it's generally recommended
you do about half an hour most days. But if you're looking to lose weight, you need to
do at least an hour of exercise most days of the week. That can be variety of things,
whether it's going out walking, swimming, jogging, dancing, pretty much any kind of
physical activity as long as you're up and moving for a good hour, five or more times
a week and you're following your healthy eating plan-- that's the best way to lose weight.
