SALLY: Got no right letting him come back here. They should send him off to some grotty
council estate.
KEVIN: What, like the one you were brought up on?
SALLY: Anywhere as long as it's not opposite us. I mean we must be able to appeal, Kevin.
We're the victims.
SOPHIE: Well actually, Rosie is.
KEVIN: Well, if she can accept it.
SALLY: Yeah, well she's just bottling it all up, putting on a brave face.
SOPHIE: Rosie, are you alright?
ROSIE: Yeah I'm fine.
SOPHIE: See.
SALLY: Now, you haven't forgotten that they're releasing John Stape today?
ROSIE: No.
SALLY: Well you must be a bit upset about it?
ROSIE: Well, it's like I said to my victim liaison officer, I've just got more important
things to think about, like money. Right, dad, please can I borrow 20 quid?
KEVIN: No.
ROSIE: But I am totally skint.
KEVIN: So get a job.
ROSIE: Well how can I get down to the job centre if I've got no money?
SOPHIE: Could push your car.
KEVIN: Or, better still, sell it.
ROSIE: That car is the only thing that I have left. No way am I selling it. Dad? Right,
fine. I'll go and ask Minnie.
SALLY: Do you know, I don't believe it. Am I the only one who cares about this?
SOPHIE: Well it looks like it.
KEVIN: I don't like it any more than you do, but there's nothing you can do about it. Rosie's
managed to put it behind her. Maybe we should try and do the same.
SALLY: How can we when he's living opposite. He's got no right. No flamin' right!
****
SALLY: Not one person spoke up in support. Not even Gail. It's times like this you know
who your friends are. John Stape must be well pleased!
KEVIN: Can you not just leave it, ey?
SALLY: If I hear you say that one more time...
ROSIE: Yeah well dad's right, mum. Why don't you just shut up about it?
SALLY: I'm doing this for you.
ROSIE: Yeah, well, I don't want you to. John Stape this, John Stape that. I'm sick of hearing
his name.
SALLY: See, I told you she was upset.
KEVIN: Yeah, at you. Can you not just let it go and move on?
SALLY: Yeah, when he does.
KEVIN: Oh, I'm going to the pub.
SALLY: Oh well thank you for your support!
SOPHIE: Dad's right, mum. It doesn't do any good, being all bitter.
SALLY: I could do without a sermon from you.
