When you listen remember to really focus on what your partner is saying.
If you listen well it is more likely that your partner will listen to what you have
to say. It helps to acknowledge that you have understood.
This means you let your partner know you understand where they are coming from, even if you don't
agree. Speak for Myself means starting with "I" instead
of "You". Remember, try not to make assumptions about
what your partner is thinking. If you use humour and time it well, it can
help to lift the mood and remind you both of the bond you share.
Monique: I've been waiting to tell you this since I got in
Ok, well, I had an absolute nightmare getting home from work today and nearly missed
my train. But anyway, Aaron said Daddy.
And I was really looking forward to telling you, but you're not even interested.
Tariq: I am interested. Look, it's really sweet that he said
that. And may be, you know, he will say it
to me tomorrow morning. But right now, what about us?
You know, it's been ages. And you are looking too gorgeous for
chit chat. Monique: Yeah, 'us' is us and Aaron
Tariq: It is, but this is 'us' too. And it is important for us to spend
this time together, just the two of us. Monique: Yeah, of course we are important
It's just that it is hard for me to switch from being mum to wife, wife to
mum, you know? Tariq: OK
Tariq: Let's see if I can help you with that... Monique: You're terrible you are!
