Expected September 2011.
The Samsung Galaxy W is an Android 2.3 smartphone targeted at a similar market to the mainstream
HTC Desire S.
The main features are a 3.7" 480 x 800 pixel TFT display on the front, a 5 megapixel camera
with LED flash and HD video recording capabilities on the back, a secondary camera for video
recording, a stereo FM radio, music player, microSD slot, GPS plus turn-by-turn navigation,
WiFi and 3.5G support, Bluetooth and all the usual Android features that you would expect.
Inside is a fast 1.4GHz single core CPU which is fast for a device in this category, and
it should make applications run very smoothly. The display and CPU will make the Galaxy W
a capable gaming platform as well as for more serious applications.
Inside is a 1350 mAh battery capable of giving over 6 hours talktime and 11 days standby
time. The Galaxy W measures 114 x 66 x 10mm, and it is a dual-band 900/2100 MHz HSPA device
capable of download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. 802.11 b, g and n WiFi is supported as well.
For most customers, the Galaxy W will be all that they need from an Android phone without
going to the expense of buying a Galaxy S II or Galaxy R. The indications are the that
Samsung Galaxy W will retail for about €320 when it hits retail channels at the end of
this month.
