Hi, this is Shawanda with You Have More Than You Think. Today I want to introduce something
new. Today is quick tip Tuesday; it’s the first quick tip Tuesday of the blog. So basically,
what I wanna do is first add video to the site because I think it adds something fresh,
some variety, some spice and it makes it a lot more personal. So I’m gonna deliver
the quick tip via video but what it basically is, is money advice and I will give you something
that is useful and it will be quick and it will relate to saving more money, making more
money or investing the money that you have. So today I’m gonna start off with a tip
on how to save money. So about a week or so ago the Centsible Life. The Centsible Life
is a blog by a fellow blogger. Kelly Whalen. Hopefully I’m pronouncing her name correctly
but she talked about Foursquare and how you could use the app to save money. If you’ve
never heard of Foursquare, Foursquare is a social networking site that is location based
and if you’re really into having people know the everyday minutiae of your life, you
can tell them exactly where you are by checking in on Foursquare. So I downloaded Foursquare
a long time ago but I didn't use it consistently but I’ve been on the site for well over
a year now. When Kelly mentioned that you can save money, I had a renewed interest in
foursquare. So I started using it again and last Friday, this past Friday, I was at the
mall and every store I went into, I checked in on Foursquare. So I went into Urban Outfitters,
Guess, Armani Exchange; a bunch of clothing stores; check in....nothing happened. I go
to American Eagle, I picked out a few tank tops; some jewelry, get to the checkout, pay
for my stuff and then I checked in to American Eagle on the Foursquare app and discovered
that I can save 15%. So at this point, I’ve already paid for my items and I’m like cashier,
I get 15% off. I need you to go back and fix that, give me my money back. Anyway, she was
very pleasant, unfortunately she had to do extra work but I was still able to get the
discount and I saved myself $9 which isn’t bad. It doesn’t require a lot of effort
to check in; you just hit a couple buttons. I will tell you that there are other money
saving apps that you can download on your iPhone or Android but I think that they're
much more difficult to use, they’re more finicky, they crash a lot. I hate Coupon Sherpa.
I know a lot of people like it but Coupon Sherpa crashes all the time. So Foursquare
I found to be much faster and easier to use. You just check in and it pretty much knows
almost exactly where you are which is great. You don’t have to do much, you just check
in and if the location where you are offers a discount on their products or services,
then you get it and I love it. Super easy. So again if you’re not on Foursquare, get
on there, start checking in and start saving money, okay. So that’s quick tip Tuesday.
