This is Mr Jorgen. He's an artist and he's from Oslo in Norway.
Before I met him, he used to wrap himself up in silver foil, and stream live on the internet.
This is Matias. He's a photographer, and he's from the north part of Norway.
He has been hitch-hiking around the world, and made TV-documentaries about his journeys.
After we both had lived some months in Beirut, we wanted to get to know the rest of the country.
We started in the North of Lebanon, and our goal was to cross the whole country on foot.
We called the trip for The Walk of Causes since we decided to walk for a new cause every day.
To be sure this was a good idea, we asked some of the local guys what they thought about our walking trip.
We are planning to walk by foot, from the North of Lebanon to the South of Lebanon
***!
You don't have car?
Take care.
If you want to go by walk beacause you don't have a car? He has a car. Mitsubishi Galant.
Ah, you want to walk? Not beacause you don't have a car?
No. We wan't to walk!
It's not an easy place, you know. They have United Nations, and Hezbollah bases, you know... You have to be careful.
They have United Nations, and Hezbollah bases, you know... You have to be careful.
You have to be careful.
No, you won't have any problems on the road, but it's problem for you!
It's too far from the North to South.
Do you know some Arabic?
Not so much.
Otherwise, how are you going to communicate?
Be careful, that's it. Be careful.
We received many good advices and warning, and we were told it would be difficult to walk this country.
Therefore we decided to see how far we could make it.
Eager to meet new people, and to see Lebanon, we set off.
Concider we don't have a map, so we have to memorize really well.
But it didn't take long before we needed some help.
There is a small road... it's not the main...
But when you come here there's a bigger road, right?
He's showing us how to get there, and it seems not that hard.
It's difficult. You need a guide.
But I don't think you need a guide.
We walk for a new cause every day. What do you think we should walk for?
What do you think we should walk for?
For peace! The best in life is peace!
Peace and health.
If you have good health to walk, and there is peace in the country this is everything you need. You don't need more.
That's a good one. We're going to walk that cause.
While this multi religious country was at war with itself for fifteen years, it also got invaded by Israel,
and the last syrian troops left in 2005.
And as recent as 2006, they came under heavy bombardment from Israel.
In the South of Lebanon, there still have UN bases since 1978.
And there are many land mines and undetonated cluster bombs left in the Lebanese soil.
With so much war in such a tiny country, we thought it would be a good choice to dedicate our first to peace and health.
To meet the rural people we decided to walk from village to village in the mountains of Lebanon.
A week after we decided to do the walk, we started Machta Hammoud and set off.
I have no *** clue where we are right now.
He was talking about a village, and there's four houses up there. I'm not sure if that is a village or not.
I'm not sure if that is a village or not.
But this village he was talking about is called Beit Gharib, and I'm gonna ask this guy if he knows if this is it.
Keefak... Marhaba.
Ehh... Beit Gharib? Beit Gharib?
(Yes!) This is Beit Gharib?
(This is Beit Gharib!)
So, (I) want to walk on top of the (mountain) ...
So I just walk here?
(Yes. This is Beit Gharib)
(This is Beit Gharib)
What's this smell man?
Hello, is it Habib Karam?
Yeah, I'm... I',m a little lost.
And... there's very steep up the mountains there, right?
So I did a wrong turn?
So we're gonna continue this road till we get on top of the mountain?
You go up in this mountain like that.
No GPS, I don't have a GPS...
We follow this road till we reach the top of the mountain, and then we leave the road?
But here, take care! Here, no more road.
OK. Bye bye. Thank you so much Habibi! Bye.
So, it's this way?
He said, yes, I know it's steep. It's going to be hard work, but you will be very happy when you reach the top.
Ohhh... this is gonna be steep, man...
Right now, we climbed the mountain...
... but we're not sure it it's the right one.
I'm a bit more skeptical now.
There's supposed to be a road ... here.
He said climb the mountain, then you find a road, and then you keep going.
But maybe it was that one, or that one...
Do we have to go all the way down now?
That's never going to happen!
We have been stuck on top of this mountain for...
... I don't know... a couple of hours.
We're sort of lost.
Basically because we didn't bring a map.
And we don't have a compass.
So this is where you are hanging out?
At the moment yes.
Cool, where we go now?
Over there?
Or over there?
But we're going to this place, right?
Things didn't seem so bright when we got lost in the mountains already on our first day.
But powered by a strong will to make it, we continued into the thick fog to see where it would take us.
We spent the night in an abandoned house haunted by wild dogs!
I'm gonna be so *** scared right now...
Before we met some guys telling us where not to go.
