This tutorial will cover the basic aspects of the robotBuilder interface
We begin by opening a project from the "open" toolbar item
You can of course also create an empty project by selecting "new" instead.
The "view" menu contains all of the various window frames for working with a project
We begin by adding a "project explorer" frame
It lists all of the resources (models, textures, etc, workpsaces) that the project contains
We load the workspace, and a grid is drawn. This is where we will drag and drop objects.
When an object is dragged into the workspace, it will show up its own object in the hiearchy frame
We will next add the hierarchy frame
The hierarchy frame contains a list of trees. The roots of the trees are the top level objects
To link objects together, drag a child object onto a parent object in a tree. This parent-child relationship can be many levels deep
We can add the objects pane to get a list of built- in objects. This contains various basic shapes.
In order to edit various aspects of an object, we add the properties frame
When an object is selected, its properties are displayed here, many of which can be editted.
Next we will demo the docking features of robotBuilder. Simply grab a window, and drag it over one of the dock objects.
The docked dimensions of the window will show up in red. Here I dock a window to the left.
You can tab several window frames by dragging over the "center" dock of a window area
Notice how "objects" is now docked as a tab with "main camera"
To undock any window pane, right-click it's tab header and select "undock"
The window is now free to be re-docked, or left floating
