My name is Phil Hoelcher and I am representing Expert Village.com this morning and we are
going to be talking a little bit about the sport of Schutzhund. We are going to try to
show you a little bit about all three phases; the tracking, obedience and protection and
give you an idea today a little bit of what this sport is all about. This is a young American
bulldog and she is following a dirt track here in South Florida. It is a visual track
with a lot of cross tracks in it where it has been used many times. So not only does
she have to follow her track but she has to separate a lot of visual cross tracks. You
will see her head go off a little bit and then come back that was a cross track. This
is a little ditch she has to work her way through that and again with this track it
is visible, it can be seen but there is many, many, many other tracks also out there that
she has to distinguish. Now this dog hasn’t got its first title yet, it is just in training
for the first title, so we are giving it some food when it finds an article that was placed
out there and the track layer when he laid the track put the articles down and it would
be like a piece of leather or a piece of cloth, or a piece of carpeting, wood or metal. It
can be about anything that the track layer has touched and carried out on the field.
So the dog not only has to find the track, when he finds something that the track layer
has put down, then he must indicate that by laying down, standing or even picking it up
and bringing it back to the handler. If you would like to talk further about Schutzhund
or like to know anything else you can e-mail me at philhoelcher@aol.com.
