Hitachi began developing rail technology in the 1920s.
Since then, our breadth of rail experience and Research and Development programme has
created new, innovative trains and infrastructure meeting the demands of passengers, operators
and governments all over the world.
Today, we provide advanced solutions in every aspect of rail travel;
from commuter trains,
to metro/underground,
to inter-city trains.
Hitachi has built them all, and makes sure they run smoothly. Indeed, measured over 38
years, our Bullet trains in Japan have never run more than an average of 1 minute late.
Hitachi’s Global A-Train carriage shows the way forward in terms of design and build.
It's lighter than a standard train, so is more economical to run; it’s thinner, so
there’s more room on board, and it’s made entirely from recyclable aluminium.
Hitachi is also making our journeys more comfortable too.
Hitachi Air Conditioning created the world's first high power Horizontal Scroll Compressor.
Its compact size means even underground trains can now be fully air-conditioned, providing
passenger comfort above and below ground.
Where Hitachi Rail is really making tracks is in creating energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly trains.
In fact, our Hybrid train has already been successfully tested in the UK.
Using our revolutionary diesel-electric-battery power system, the train achieved major reductions
in energy consumption, emissions and noise.
Tests in the UK have shown that Europe’s first hybrid high-speed train can cut fuel
bills by up to 30%, and emissions by up to an impressive 50%.
But our desire to reduce the carbon footprint of passenger transport doesn't stop there.
We are currently developing a hydrogen fuel cell-powered train, which will emit nothing
but condensed water.
Hitachi’s pioneering technology and forward thinking is already making an impact in Europe
with the supply to the UK of a fleet of high-speed Javelin trains which will serve the
London Olympics in 2012.
Hitachi continues to pioneer the most innovative rail technology in the world,
inspiring a faster, cleaner transport-life.
