>>Narrator: You use segments to isolate and analyze specific parts of your traffic.
To activate a predefined segment, simply select it.
The 'All Visits' segment contains all traffic to the site.
Let's also select 'Direct Traffic' and 'Visits with Conversions'.
[pause]
We can now compare the three segments side by side: 'All Visits', 'Direct Traffic', and
'Visits with Conversions'.
You can move around in your reports and the selected segments remain active.
Here, we're comparing the three segments in the top content report.
[pause]
Let's define a custom segment.
We click 'Advanced Segments' again at the top of the report and then click 'Create a
New Advanced Segment'.
[pause]
Here we are on the 'Create Advanced Segment' screen.
We'll create a segment that includes only the visitors from California.
'Region' is our dimension.
[pause]
For 'Condition', we'll select 'Matches Exactly'.
And for the 'Value', we'll select 'California'.
Now let's see how many visits are included in this segment.
By clicking 'Test Segment', we can see that there were 3573 visits from California.
Let's narrow this segment down further by adding another condition that must be met.
Let's look for revenue and specify that revenue must be greater than zero.
[pause]
Let's test the segment.
[pause]
There were 123 visits in which revenue was greater than zero -- visits during which someone
made a purchase.
[pause]
And there were 20 visits that meet both conditions.
The visit came from California and included a purchase.
[pause]
Now let's name the segment and save it.
[pause]
Now, any time we want to apply the segment, we can select it from 'Custom Segments' and
compare the segment alongside other segments in any of the reports.
We can even apply the segment to historical data.
That's it.
You're now ready to try Advanced Segments on your own reports.
Thanks for listening.
