Yeah I've made a lot of friends actually
not only from my corridor, but from the opposite blocks.
There's only one entrance into the place so everyone goes through there
anytime of the day and you just wait there and people come up to you and talk to you
and it's like a family you know?
My name is Ashvin and I've just moved into Winn Studios residence
it's a new hall by Northumbria University.
Best features of the room; I have an awesome bed! I have a shower, a heater
there's ample space to put stuff for studying, though you can see now it's empty
and the furniture's really good.
Good quality.
The internet is really, really fast.
I would say it's bittersweet. Once I'd be like; "Oh I can't wait to go and study overseas, I'm gonna meet new people"
On the other side I'm leaving my family, I'm leaving my girlfriend, I'm leaving my best friend. People I've known for years.
and that was really sad but, they told me you've gotta do what you've gotta do.
You've got to see new places, learn new things and come back being a better person.
As for contacting my friends I have Skype.
Skype is foolproof these days.
Along the way I hope to be more independent because it's the first time I'm moving out of my place.
There's a lot of things I'm doing for the first time.
I'm looking forward to going to St. James' Park, because I am a lifelong Newcastle fan.
Yeah.
It's like a family y'know? We're all there like a family.
I've met people from Ireland, people from Lithuania and China, of course my house mates are from China.
So it is a very cosmopolitan place and it's nice because everyone has a different perspective on what life is and how university is.
And they come from different backgrounds. I've never been in this situation before.
Back home we do have a few different races and people from different backgrounds but this is like a melting pot of ideas.
The people are wonderful. They are so proud of the city and the shopping scene here is, just another level.
I've been told the nightlife in the city is awesome, but I'd like to go and find out for myself.
I've heard stories, people come back and they can't really walk straight, and they walk into Winn Studios
"You know man, you should go to this place, Tiger Tiger!"
And another guy told me about this, and I was like yeah, yeah I should go there soon!
At the Freshers Fair the first thing I did was sign-up with a doctor
because I was told it's very important in case anything happens to you.
I signed up with the footsal team, they're having trials this Sunday
And besides that I'd like to try, there are a lot of left-field sports that I saw, like Kendo
things like that, rock-climbing. I've never tried all those things before.
Maybe I'd like to try and if I like it I might take it up.
Oh! When I first say it I was like; 'Wow- I'm actually back'
I can't believe I would actually see it because you always see it back home on the TV
and everyone is so noisy. I was like; 'Wow, I'm actually back home!'
I know I'm not from here but it felt like home. Instantly.
And as you can see, this says it all. I finally got a jersey.
A proper jersey, from the club shop and it was quite an experience. Yeah I will never forget that.
Yeah I do. I mean Mum calls me all the time on my phone. I've showed her my room and everything and she was very impressed by it.
I think it's quite *** them because I used to be the voice in the house, and take my Mum everywhere, I'm very close to her
but I think she's getting used to it.
Once again letting me go at 24, she did once at 18 so she's doing it again! I think she has some training in that.
I would say go for it. The transition was smooth
the service was good, the room is great
My advice to anyone wanting to come to Northumbria University and Winn Studios
it is apparently it's the cool place to be because each time I tell people I'm staying in Winn Studios
they're like; "You're staying in Winn Studios? That's awesome man! When can I come and party?"
I think they're all big on en-suite stuff, I guess.
It's a no brainer actually.
