Hey this is Alex, SideReel's resident Gleek… and I'm here to talk about Glee's 2nd annual
Christmas episode. Now I'm not trying to be a grinch… but why does Glee feel the need
to have Christmas episodes at all? This is the 2nd year in a row that they've thrown
in a Christmas episode in the middle of the season, that's totally independent from the
storyline and has nothing to do with the rest of the season. Why don't they just release
a Christmas album, and not have Christmas episodes at all? Especially when they don't
make any sense. Alas, they did make another nonsensical Christmas episode, even though
a number of the main characters are Jewish, so let's talk about it. But if you don't mind,
I'm going to go ahead and pretend the whole Chewbacca thing didn't happen.
For the record, Mercedes is just about the only person other than Mariah Carey that should
ever be allowed to sing "All I Want For Christmas Is You". Justin Bieber, I'm talking to you.
Also, Rachel.. don't listen to Finn. You are NO Kim Kardashian. But you are a really rude
girlfriend.
And I would like to know how I can get an invite to Kurt & Blaine's uber-fabulous vintage-chic
black and white Christmas chalet. I don't care what it takes, I will wear an unflattering
sleeveless dress like Rachel or roll up wearing a ninja robe like Finn - I'm down. But really
- Blaine and Kurt were cute enough that they almost saved about 10 minutes of the episode.
Almost. See? I have nice things to say!
Also, in general, I'm also really sick of episodes where the New Directions are in the
classroom or "at practice", just staring at each other lip-syncing. It's like shot of
Rory pretending to sing, shot of Santana looking bored, shot of Rachel pretending to sing in
an extravagant staged snowscape, shot of Quinn just staring. Why do I need to watch that?
If you didn't have any good reason to have someone sing a song, then don't put it in
the episode.
In summary, I love Glee. and I love Christmas. But I hated this episode. If you hate me for
hating this episode, feel free to disagree with me in the comments… and check back
with us at SideReel when Glee returns in January!
