A large-scale recovery operation gets underway in Nigeria. An internal flight crashes shortly
after take-off just outside the domestic terminal at the airport in the country's commercial
capital Lagos. 15 people killed. The Brazilian made Embraer passenger plane making the short
hop to Akure, just 140 miles to the southwest.
Airport boss, Yakubu Doti, insisting they're doing all they can.
"The rescue operation commenced immediately with all the relevant agencies moving in mass
to the crash site to rescue victims. And we can confirm to you that five of the victims
have already been rushed to the hospital and all the agencies are already on ground to
monitor and rescue victims."
The fire service saying it had removed all the bodies. Curious onlookers capture the
scene with the cameras on their phones. Air crashes relatively common in Nigeria, which
despite having Africa's second-biggest economy, has a poor safety record. Last year, 163 people
died when a plane crashed into an apartment block in Lagos in the country's worst airline
disaster in two decades.
